I put up pictures of mountains that I drew by hand and made on the computer. This time I want to show another mountain picture of the computer graphics variety again. |

Unlike the computer-made mountain picture that I put up here before, there is very little sense of depth in terms of color usage, the gradation is very simple, and instead going with a color range that uses colors which share the same basic elements like green and blue, I decided to go with a combo of green and red, which are complimentary colors. As far as elements which are the same as the previous work go, I would cite the method of putting in the color wherein the shapes of the mountains and clouds were inserted while adjusting the level of transparency.
When I do computer graphics, I tend to like methods of depiction that you don't usually see in hand crafted pieces. There are a lot of computer graphics on the internet that try to mimic oil paintings or air brush paintings, but not many of them are good enough to where you can't tell that they were made on a computer. If the current level of technology makes it so easy to tell that a work is a computer graphic, I think it is much more interesting to just try to make something that looks like a computer graphic in the first place. In fact, it seems entirely more fun to pursue effects that you either can't reproduce or at least are difficult to reproduce using the so-called "traditional media" of oils, acrylics, water color, and ink. Of course, having said that, the more I look at this current piece, the more I get the sense of a feel that you might see in a typical acrylic painting. What I can say, though, is that I personally would not have made a piece like this using acrylic paints. That is because flat color fields are incredibly difficult for me to do in acrylics and oil paints.
As I said before, when I take pen in hand and start doodling unconsciously, for some reason I tend to wind up drawing pictures of mountains and rocks a lot recently. I really want to keep studying methods of expression for mountains in pen sketches and ink drawings as well as pushing the limits even farther on types of depiction that can only be done on a computer or that fit comfortably in a computer environment. At some point, I might even wind up creating something that can only be done on a computer.
